Summer Health & Wellness Q&A With Dr. Nekessa Remy
In the latest issue of Real Style Magazine, Health/Wellness Expert, Chiropractor and Registered Acupuncturist Dr. Nekessa Remy answers some of your most burning questions.
Q: How does chiropractic care work and what are the most common reasons people have for beginning chiropractic treatment?
A: Chiropractic medicine is an evidence-informed, non-invasive, hands-on health care discipline that focuses on the musculoskeletal system. Using our hands for assessment, we provide diagnosis, treatment and preventive care for disorders related to the spine, pelvis, nervous system and joints. Most will seek care if experiencing muscle problems like strains or tightness, joint injuries like ankle sprains or arthritis or nerve issues like sciatica or carpal tunnel syndrome. With the use various manual therapy tools, such as soft tissue work and spinal manipulative therapy we help patients work towards optimal health.
Q: In your opinion, what is the most overlooked area of health?
A: Self-Care! Self-care in my opinion is the best type of preventative medicine. However, with busy and overscheduled lives, taking care of our health is often at the bottom of our to-do list. In order to live our healthiest lives, we have to make self-care a priority. Healthy living is a RIGHT not a privilege. We must understand that we each have a right to live healthy and pain free lives. My goal as a health care practitioner is to help my patients understand self-care so they can be equipped to become their own health advocates.
